A Legal Intern Committed to Helping Hoosiers
Bekah Harper is a certified legal intern at the Fletcher Van Gilder law firm in Fort Wayne.
She is currently studying for her law degree at the University of Dayton in a part-time program that allows her to work while pursuing her degree. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Criminal Justice from Trine University.
Before joining FVG, Bekah was the assistant executive director of the Volunteer Lawyer Program of Northeast Indiana, which connects low-income Hoosiers with free legal help.
She also previously worked for Allen County Community Corrections, where she coordinated supervision for criminal offenders who aren’t incarcerated so they can work and pursue rehabilitation.
Bekah was introduced to FVG while working for the Volunteer Lawyer Program.
“I was always impressed with their passion and dedication not only to their paying clients, but their pro bono clients as well,” she said. “I knew I wanted to be a part of a team that has a commitment to put every single client first.”
“Many individuals in our community face challenges that they don’t necessarily recognize are legal issues. Everyday situations can turn into significant issues that are sometimes legal issues. What inspires me is helping people understand their options and empowering them to make informed decisions when they’re faced with those situations.”
Bekah has lived in Indiana since she was three years old. She and her husband are both dedicated to Fort Wayne and building their lives and careers here.
When she’s not working or studying, she lifts weights, spends time with her two dogs and one cat, watches true crime documentaries and reads books, particularly fantasy novels.
She has two tattoos inspired by books. She has 10 tattoos in total and plans to add more.
“I like to think I’m not what people would expect a lawyer to look like with my tattoos.”
